Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The United Nations created the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to prevent the horrors of World War II from ever happening again. Chaired by Eleanor Roosevelt, a diverse global committee drafted the document, which the United Nations adopted on December 10, 1948, as a common standard of basic freedoms for all people.
