The Declaration of Independence
The thirteen American colonies declared war on Great Britain in 1775 because the British King imposed unfair taxes without their consent. To justify this split to the world, the Continental Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, cutting all political ties with the British Crown.
